Sweet Chili!

Recipe from Renee Saxman

The sweetness of a little bit of honey tempers the spices of the chili. Very nice flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped or pressed
  • 1 can light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes (with onions, garlic and peppers if desired)
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp. Johnston Honey
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. hot sauce (Tabasco)
  • Shredded cheese and slice green onions, if desired

Instructions

Brown ground beef, onion and pepper until vegetables are soft and beef is browned. Add garlic and cook another minute or two. Add beans, tomatoes, 1 1/2 cup water, tomato paste, honey and spices. Simmer, covered, for 2 hours on medium-low heat. Stir occasionally. Add additional water if necessary. Serve topped with shredded cheese and slice green onions, if desired.
