Big honey crop this year

Johnston Honey had a huge crop of honey this year. All hives were replaced with packaged bees after the winter die off of 2008. These bees were fed Bee Pro patties from Mann Lake Bee Supply Company. These patties contain nutrients and pollen to stimulate the queen to lay eggs as soon as the packages are hived. This meant that there was a big bee population in the hive ready to go to work as soon as the honey flow started. It was a cool summer, but dry and this resulted in a protracted flowering and foraging period. The highway department seemed to help out by seeding the borders of new highways with more sweet clover as part of their "highway" seed mix.
