What are the districts?

When the Johnston family first started keeping bees, the hives were located on their property near the perennial gardens. As demand for the honey grew, Don put hives in several different locations surrounding the Rochester area called "districts". Wildflower honey comes from the districts and perennial nectar comes from the Johnston property. Currently, the wildflower districts are Viola Road, 60 Ave SW, Chester Road and Hop Hollow Rd.

More about the honey

Learn why our honey is special!

The honey from each district is extracted and bottled separately and the origin identified on on each bottle of wildflower honey. The origin of the honey influences the flavor because the honey is collected from flowers unique to that district. Pastures attract Vervain, Mint and thistles, while bogs have plenty of milkweed. Each honey is excellent in flavor, just a little different.
